His name is Muhammad ibn Isa ibn Sawrah ibn Musa ibn Ad-Dahhak - and it is also said that he was Muhammad ibn Isa ibn Yazid ibn Sawrah ibn As-Sakan - the Hafiz, the notable scholar, the proficient Imam, As-Sulami, At-Tirmidhi, Ad-Darir (the Blind)

Imam At-Tirmidhi, may Allah have mercy on him, was blind. However, there is disagreement as to whether he became blind or was born blind.
It has been said no one has been seen to be blind except that he was intelligent, and amongst them is At-Tirmidhi Al-Kabir, the Hafiz

The one who considers the history of the critique of the Prophetic Sunnah, from the era of narration until the present day, will inevitably notice there is a discrepancy between the judgements passed on some Ahadith by the Nuqqad of the Sunnah in the ages of narration, that is: the first three centuries and between those passed by the Nuqqad of the Sunnah after those generations until the present day. He will also notice that the more time has passed, the more apparent the discrepancy will have become.

He will notice the great number of Ahadith that have been authenticated although the early scholars judged them to be Munker (rejected) and weak. In fact, they may have even stated that they are Batil (false) or Mawdu (fabricated). The early scholar might say concerning this topic there is nothing establish or there is no authentic Hadith concerning this yet the later scholar will come and say rather, such and such Hadith or such and such Ahadith are authentic concerning it
